Comicpalooza Is Almost Here!

I’m so excited! Comicpalooza 2024 starts on Friday, May 24, and I’m going to be there all weekend!

I signed up back in March and splurged on a VIP pass! Completely unnecessary, but so much fun! I wasn’t expecting Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd to be there this year, so it was pretty awesome when the website rolled out the Back To The Future event scheduled for Sunday.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – he looked pretty good with a buzz cut

Naturally, I love Doc Brown, but I actually loved Lloyd in a different role a little more. It took me by surprise when my father pointed out Lloyd was Max Taber in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He did a pretty stand-up job playing a crazy man, so much so that the first time I watched the film, he scared me a little bit. I’m looking forward to getting a photo with him, as well as his autograph!

I’m getting a few other autographs, actually. Let’s see… Actor Efren Ramirez. Actually, I don’t remember what I’ve seen him in. I haven’t seen Napoleon Dynamite. But I have been told he’s talented. I’ll be pleased to meet him.

John Cena. He’s a wrestler who apparently I won’t be able to see, despite looking right at him. I’ve heard that joke several times from different people. I need to look into that. If I had known that wrestlers were so darn cute, I’d have started watching years ago!

Stan Sakai! Comic book artist extraordinaire! I have been trying like crazy to find any issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that he drew that I could get shipped to me before Friday, but all the sites I went onto said the comics wouldn’t arrive until the first week of June. Eeek! I’ll just get him to sign my autograph book.

And finally, the guy whose presence at Comicpalooza actually made me want to go this year:

ANDREW ROBINSON!!

Garak! “Scorpio” from Dirty Harry! Liberace (and the best Liberace outside of Liberace himself)! This man is my idol! He’s able to play funny, clever, snarky, and slightly sadistic characters with such subtilty that I fully believe in every role I’ve ever seen him in.

Mostly, though, I love him for Garak. Garak was my favorite character on Star Trek: Deep Space 9, and since I loved damn near every character on that show, that’s saying something! Sixteen-year-old me dropped my crush on Wesley Crusher and grabbed onto Garak as soon as I saw him for the first time.

I know there are so many things I’m looking forward to at Comicpalooza, but honestly, if he weren’t coming, I don’t know that I would have shelled out the cash to go this year, or at least, not all three days.
